XNAT
XNAT [1] https://www.xnat.org/ is an open-source platform, originally developed at Washington University, St Louis and now administered by flywheel.io, designed specifically to support imaging research. Its core function is to manage the import, archiving, searching, processing, visualisation and secure distribution of image and related study data.
XNAT has a significant track record with considerable international traction in the imaging research community and is widely used for managing the imaging component of observational clinical studies. After its early beginnings in 2001, XNAT has been continuously funded since 2008 across multiple grant cycles.
The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) in London has based its research image archive on XNAT since 2010 and has been working with OHIF since 2016. Funded from 2018 – 2024 by Cancer Research UK’s NCITA multicentre collaboration, we have leveraged the power of OHIF to create a state-of-the-art web viewer fully integrated into XNAT, with advanced capabilities in segmentation and annotation, measurement, and AI [2]. At the time of writing, the XNAT-OHIF plugin had been downloaded more than 13,000 times by users all around the world.

"We have been working with the outstanding XNAT development team at ICR since 2010 and their contribution to image viewing in XNAT has been transformative for the platform. Their expertise on all aspects of oncology imaging workflows has enabled XNAT to become a cornerstone application of the cancer research community."
